A Special Thanks to James Karg

Recently our online financial literacy class received an important upgrade when James Karg donated his time and vocals to produce audio files for each step along the way in our PFL class on Moodle. Hopefully this helps struggling readers who are in need of a little help.

Twitter Feed not Working at UJHS

Well some of you may have noticed that the PFL Twitter role/feed in not displaying correctly on the right hand side of the PFL Blog (this blog). The issue has to do with the new filter that Urbana City Schools is using to block inappropriate websites. Unfornately the Twitter Feed will be block at UCS on the PFL Blog until further notice.

So Many Great Changes! Now Google Voice

When I think back to last year and how far our personal financial literacy class has come I really get excited. In addition to upgrading Moodle software and the Moodle server we have over hauled the first two modules to include much more communication and collaboration and we have even more planned for the following modules. Instructional videos have been added to assist students in completing assignments and with the addition of the TEACHER TEXT HELP DESK using Google Voice we think this will be the best year yet!

The number for texting a Personal Financial Literacy question to your instructor is

937.969.0107

*Please know ALL TEXTS, VOICEMAILS, AND COMMUNICATIONS AND NUMBERS ARE RECORD AND ARCHIVED.

Personal Financial Literacy Updates!

Wow! Our first year has come to an end and we are already hard at work trying to make the coming 2012-2013 school year even better.

What are some of the specifics that we are doing, well glad you asked, some things you will notice right away and other things are items that we are upgrading to make your PFL experience more enjoyable.

First of all we took a long reflective look at all of the valuable feedback that students, parents and others provided to us at the conclusion of the 2012 school year. After focusing on a few key areas we are going to attempt to provide more timely feedback to each student.

We have changed the look of the PFL class but the focus of the class remains the same. We have upgraded the Moodle server to reduce the amount of time you have to wait between actions. We have upgraded the software from Moodle v1.9 to Moodle v2.3 (the newest version available)

*Just as a note Moodle is an open source content management system (CMS) which is free to download and use thus saving the district resources.

We have also found quite a few new web 2.0 tools that will hopefully allow for more collaboration amoung students and communication from teacher to student.

As you can tell we are really excited about all of the changes and improvements for the coming year, as always if you have a comment or question please feel free to comment or contact us directly.

Great News

Mr. Charles Green and Mr. Joachim LaValley were accepted to present at the 2012 Etech Conference in Columbus on Feb 13th. We are very excited and look forward to sharing all of the cool things we have learned this past year with fellow educators from the great state of Ohio.
